Rather than picking random unrelated kanji, the app prioritizes **"related" kanji that share a radical or component with the correct answer**. Learning to tell apart kanji that look similar is one of the most effective ways to build lasting retention. Some of these "related" kanji may come from **a grade level higher than your current setting** (for example, for the Grade 3 kanji 指, choices may include the Grade 5 kanji 提, 損, and 接, which all share the 扌 radical). - **At most 2 higher-grade kanji will appear in any single question** (no more than 2 out of 8 choices — one fewer than before). - **The correct answer is always within your selected grade range.** A higher-grade kanji will never be the right answer. - In the explanation shown after answering, the correct kanji shows "Elementary Grade N / Kanji Kentei Level M", while each of the "other choices" shows just "Elementary Grade N". Higher-grade kanji are shown in blue so you can spot them at a glance. Seeing a small number of higher-grade kanji mixed in is completely normal behavior — there is no need to find it intimidating. Even just glancing at them as "distinguishing practice" is beneficial.
